Operating system software is a task performed each time an individual uses the computer. It is impossible to use a computer without operating system software. What is system software? System software is a combination of the operating system and the many other utilities which cause any computer to perform.
When thinking of software in regards to the computer, it can be a matter of confusion, especially for those who aren’t familiar with computers. Operating system software refers to those programs which are the base or platform enabling other programs and applications to run and work properly. Software is a broad term in relation to computers. For the individual who’s new to computers and intimidated by the technical terms, operating system software simply means, operating the bones of the system. Without bones, the human body wouldn’t have any structure or form. The same can be said for the computer, without system software, the computer would be void of the essentials required to run properly. Operating system software requires an operating system such as Windows, DOS or whichever program the individual chooses. Once the appropriate operating system is installed, the computer is equipped with the bones of the operation. From there operating system software means implementing this base operating system along with its utilities, to ensure the other installed applications run proficiently.
With the amount of information available nowadays regarding computers, programs, software, hardware and operating system software, there shouldn’t be any reason for an individual to feel inadequate or intimidated when others begin to toss around technical jargon about computers.
